October 23, 2009
Chinese telecom equipment supplier ZTE announced on October 19 that the company has opened a dual-mode CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)/LTE (Long Term Evolution) laboratory at its US headquarters located in Richardson, Texas, according to a press release by ZTE on October 20. The new facility aims to help US operators demonstrate and test ZTE's dual-mode CDMA/LTE platform in a bid to help them accelerate their LTE development roadmap in North America.

ZTE stated that the network based on the said platform has achieved a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) downlink speed rate up to 52Mbps at 10MHz bandwidth and the company is conducting a trial run for CDMA voice and LTE HD (High Definition) video services as well. Designed to be compatible with CDMA and LTE, this platform can also be tailor-made to become a multi-mode GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System)/LTE platform based on individual customer requirements, according to the same source.
